UNIVA'S 31st cultural week

Univa Cultural Week

As part of the school year, the UNIVA organize a week where you can see some projects from the different areas of the high school. There we have to assist to 5 events per day, to cover up a demand and for not having an absence.  This year in the 31st edition of the cultural week, the theme of the week was the world cup, because we are close to it.
The main purpose of the week is taking the students to learn more about certain subjects, the ones the like more, because along all the week they can choose between different events. The events that the students have to cover are: 1 conference, 2 expositions, 1 massive event and 1 contest. At the end of every event there were people who signed the folder, so those signs prove that the students went to the event.

Inauguration

The inauguration of the cultural week was on Monday, May 26th, it was organized by the humanities department. Charity was the main value of the event. I can tell that the event was flat and boring, and as the teens we are, we get bored very easy and if we are not paying attention, then we are disturbing.
There also were three performances of the ballet and jazz group. They did well, beside that there were so many girls and the stage was crowded.

Tuesday

There were multiple choices of events to go, the ones that I decided to go were

·         I am a teacher, I am ecologist
·         Mexican football photos
·         Charity kilometer
·         Who are you?
·         Photography contest

The first event I went was I am a teacher, I am ecologist, the exposition was on Sum’s lobby, and it was a photo exposition about teachers tat posed with their pets. I still don’t know how a pet makes you an ecologist.

The second exposition was about Mexican football photos; personally I am in a disagreement with football, because it is overrated here in Mexico. The players are so bad that they’re paid to lose. I mean if I were them, I would train always to beat myself and be better. The photos were incredible; I really liked them, because you can see like happiness and other emotions.

Charity kilometer was the event where you had to donate food for the homeless, and the meant to achieve a kilometer full of food and other services. I liked this event, because is the one that you are doing something for the others, that will make a help.

Who are you was a conference given by the teacher Joel Gallegos, this event was one of my favorites during all the week, and the conference was very crowded, because maybe some people don’t want to heard the conference, they just want their sign to complete the day’s events. This conference was about not just who you are, it was about what makes you unique, and the name isn’t part of it, what makes you unique and different to the others are the experiences, because everybody has different experiences to tell.

Wednesday

This day was full of events, but not just events, these conferences and expositions were cool, and also I participated in one of them.

·         Expo physics
·         Expo design
·         A window to the universe
·         Rock concert
·         Sustainable movement
·         Expo chemistry
·         Didactic games

In the expo physics I participated explaining about my project that was an air motor. Basically in the exposition the people were interested on the projects that had lights, or moved by itself. But our project was one of the most original, because the exposition was full of Tesla’s bobbin here were like four or five; the next repeated invent were the cars that followed a light or a black line. I think that a project is good and can win when there’s no competition and as competition I mean other projects alike, because that takes off the originality. The prizes of the exposition were very juicy, because as we know physics is a very difficult subject so the prizes to the winners were in grades, the first place won 100% of their grade in the partial, the second place received like 50% and the third place 20%. We won 2nd place, but I believe that we should have won 1st because our project was the most original and it did worked.
In the expo design there were pictures and different techniques of the paintings, the exposition was awesome, because you couldn’t believe what kids in high school can make and look realistic ever after. In the other classroom the exposition was about commercial design, how to make like banners or structures according to the product you’re offering.
A window to the universe was an exposition about universe, I didn’t make it to go, but I went the last year and it was… boring, the pictures were great, but the expositor was on the floor so almost no one unless the people on the front could see him. The pictures he had obviously were of the universe, stars, planets, the milky way, etc. and those are the ones that worth.
The Rock concert was good, at the beginning the people weren’t excited, but then they started to heat up the environment and the concert worth to go. There were almost 6 bands that played different songs. At the beginning the crew of the event was concerned because the horns weren’t on function, so one of the kids who played the guitar told to the organizers that his dad was there, and he was like an event planner, so he had horns, microphones and all the stuff to make that concert to sound.

Sustainable movement, this conference was about moving in bike in the city, there were 4 persons, one standing for the PRI, that was an architect, then there was another guy saying the most important points to be safe in the city; and the last two guys were standing for Movimiento Ciudadano. When the conference began the architect from the PRI started saying that as part of the new government there will be bikeways to be safe, also that there would be public bikes to use and move in the city. Then the guy who talked about the most important points to take in count when you are in bike, he also told us that moving in bike is great, it’s cardiovascular exercise, and you don’t pollute. At the end when the guys of Movimiento Ciudadano stood up, they started complaining about the city conditions and how they’re bad and not enough for people to move in bike. During the last speech as the guys were concerned about the city, he started blaming the city counselor, and then a guy told them to be respectful to each other.

Expo chemistry was about natural products for the skin care. I participated the last year and the main purpose is to check the campaign to see which one is the best according to their product. And as I could see this time, some of the products are the same or alike. Soaps, lips moisturizer, candles, body gel, etc.
The didactic games were the easiest way to get a sign, because you just had to play an easy game to get it. I played economical jenga, and I love jenga, so it was easy, beside that I threw the tower once.

Thursday

·         Massive media publicity
·         Expo pet
·         Talent show
·         Videogames and social protest
·         Spelling bee
The first exposition that I went was about massive media publicity, and how does it affect the perception of the viewer. The kids of 6° TCB were explaining the situation and the reception of the people. It was all English spoken.
Expo pet, beside that there was a lot of queue, when I entered there, I saw a lot of different animals as boas, alligators, hedgehog, sheep and obviously dogs and cats. When I saw a girl with an alligator I asked her what happen to the alligator when it grew up and it can’t be inside the house and she answered me that, it has to go to the mangroves in Nayarit. So it’s kind of a protective group.

The talent show, this multitudinal event that was bad organized due to oversold tickets. The queue to get into the SUM was gigantic and all the people that didn’t had ticket or place stayed outside, just hearing the people screaming. As I stayed outside the event, I heard some girls that also stayed outside complaining that her boyfriend was playing inside, and it’s kind of sad because sometime you promise to watch your friend performing and you do want to see him, but due to external situations you just can’t see them.
Videogames and social protest was a conference where the teacher Tony Valderrama told us that you can learn with videogames, because almost all the videogames have a justification to be, either subjects as history, geography, math, science, etc. also playing videogames you achieve abilities, that may be useful on the future.

The spelling bee, this event was the most awaited by me to happen, because I participated in it. The contest was too disorganized, because the judges gave another chance to say the word if you misspelled it, and you could say it again if the judges didn’t understood. I lost like in 12th place, but what matters is that I tried, and I can win the next year. The winner was a girl named Betsy from 4° BGB and in 2nd place Priscila from 4° TCB.

Friday

Closing event

Unlike to the opening, this event was very dynamic and with more dancing performances. At the beginning the dance that opened was from the Arabic dance group, and then the folkloric group danced a typical dance. The jazz group performed “a little party never killed nobody” and was followed by the guys from break dance, then the other jazz club and to end up the performances the Polynesian group. There also was showed the video of the groups of 6th semester that have finished their high school and they’re now going to university. The video was on charge by the teacher Luis Gregorio, and I can tell that he dances better than all the groups mixed up. When the closing event was going to end, the communication academy surprised everybody with batucada and samba girls.

Teacher Lusho, thanks for this semester,  hope you have a great holidays and I also hope to see you the next year, if I don’t, then I’m going to hate even more  the Univa.

P.S. you have to know that I’m the worst procrastinator ever and I did the assignement on Saturdays, and uploaded them at 3:00 am more or less :].

Papirolas, say it with art.

Papirolas

Papirolas is an exposition that cares for the kids and adolescents, and has place every year.
The exposition has been taking place since 15 years ago, bringing the families time to enjoy together and to learn too.

The event is compound by diverse courses, talks, and live contests. The festival occur in spring and last a week.

A little of history:

The festival started in 1995 as part of the FIL, a space created specifically for children, with the objective of having a place where they can learn and enjoy.
The festival in the first years took place on the Expo Guadalajara, but then it was taken into public places, from 2003 to 2010 the festival was released on the Calle 2, a space of the Universidad de Guadalajara in Zapopan. Since 2011 the exposition came back to its first original place Expo Guadalajara, and since that date, the festival offers to the teachers a training program.

Let’s paint murals! In the Public Library of Jalisco.

From March 15th to April 30th the exposition will take place in the public library “Juan José Arreola”.

The exposition includes 12 from 18 collection paintings, which were painted in late 1992 and early 1993. The paints were made by indigenous children from Mexican indigenous communities.

This collection was made by initiative of the Trust for the Health of Indigenous Children in Mexico presiding by Ofelia Medina.

Let's paint murals! Has already been exhibited in Japan, Los Angeles and Chicago (United States), Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Greenland and Russia, among other places.

The exposition

During the festival you can see beside a lot of kids, a lot of art, it is everywhere. In the entrance the first thing you see is a gigantic mural that is great. Then you walk, ant then are the courses. All the courses are different, body-music, drawing with light, big-headed persons, and even stilts.
When you have a kid and take him/her to the festival, you can know him/her better, because you can know what does he/she likes more. Beside art can be very important in the development of the kids.

Besides having a lot of courses, the ones that you could hear among all the place was the one about music, and children liked it because they can touch the drums, not only physically, the can play it too. In that point is where the parents are very happy because in the festival they are allowed to play, make noise and have fun and no-one can tell them not to do that.
We know that all kids are different, that’s why they made different courses for those kids, but at the end they all can have fun, and we know that kids are magic because they surprise with everything.

This year, a now thing added to the exposition was the subscription of scholar groups, where kids with their school friends can go and enjoy all together.

The government had a stand too

As part to improve and get to know better through all the parents culture, the did not realized where they were, at a kids exposition. A kid would never visit their stand because the lack of colors they use, I think that kids have the same right to know what is happening on the government too, and those people have to tell them in the easiest way.

A part very important of the exposition (in my opinion) was the atmosphere, because kids are always happy and they do spread all the happiness, but in some stand you could see the stand attendants very bored, tired, without the desire to attract people to know more about their product, company, etc. just few stand were treating with kids.

Beside all this was a good exposition and kids liked it and that’s the most important thing. They did had fun.

Disable People

Problems

A disability is the impediment either physical, cognitive, mental, sensory, emotional, developmental or some combination of these.
This problem more to be a personal or familiar problem is a social problem, because all these people don't have the fault to be the way they are.
There are quite a lot of problems that come after having a disability, for example poverty.
Having a disability most of the times end up in poverty, because the person didn’t acquire any skills.
But also poverty contributes to disability, because in poor countries where the kids are in danger to be malnourished the can be affected by diseases such as polio or even get involved on an accident.
Another example of the contribution of poverty are wars, when there is a war on a country most of the time there are civilians that get hurt and when they lost a part of their body, they turn into disables and they won’t contribute to their country as they did before.
But most of the times taking care of a disable person is expensive, not only economically but emotionally as well. And I don’t mean that having a disable person in your family is a punishment from God, but the society isn’t ready yet for disable people.
And this problem get us to a lot more as the schools that most of the time don’t accept disable children, because they’re different. And the special schools that are for those kids most of the time are very expensive beside that in quite a lot of times they can’t be good enough and the reason is that there’s not enough information about the different disabilities that some people face.

Having a disability makes a person different from the others, but that doesn´t mean that you are going to treat him different from the others, because that’s the problem in our society and they know it very well, you can treat them like stupid, because they are not, sometimes they are even smarter than us we can take as an example to Stephen Hawking, he beside theoretically predicted that black holes emit radiation, opened some schools for disable people and I had the opportunity to be in one of his schools and is a great experience, because you can see the disable children hanging out with kids like themselves and helping each other, and then you realize that what those people can teach you is to love no matter what and to be patient too but all those people are full of love and if you treat them in a way they can get angry, they can change all the love in his heart for hate and there’s when we sometimes see a disable person on the street and try to help him out and they get mad but isn’t his fault anyway is society’s.

Most of the problems that disable people face are because of the society and it’s a vicious circle, where it will never ends at least the society change.

Movies of 2014; They're really new?

Lack of imagination

As you know there are many movies this year, but few of them are really original. If you consider a reboot, sequel, remake and based on the best seller, then you're wrong. Nowadays ther's no creativity in Holywood, most of the pictures are aadaptations from famous books, remakes, reboots or sequels, instead of many years ago when the films were rally good in the plot, but being in black & white were a disadvantage. Now that film-makers have all this technology, they do movies not very creative.
The next lists are going to show you some movies in each category previously mentioned.

Remake

Remake is the category where movies are reproduced as the original one, in reference to the plot, characters, setting and almost every detail from the original one.
  • Godzilla
  • The NeverEnding Story

  • American Psycho
  • Jumanji
  • Highlander
  • He-Man

Reboot

This is the category where movies are reproduced again, but the plot is quite diferent and there are general details. Sometimes the reboot has a different, new and fresh story to relaunch the movie.
  • Batman
  • Daredevil
  • Fantastic Four
  • It
  • Jack Ryan

Sequel

A sequel are all the movies that are second, third or whatever the continuation of thr movie is.
  • Captain America: The Winter Soilder
  • Rio 2
  • A Haunted House 2
  • Paranormal Avtivity 5
  • Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
  • Jurassic Park IV
  • Transformers 4
  • Marvel's: The Avengers 2

Based on novel

This category is very easy to know what is it about. There are thousands of books with good stories to tell and some movies adapt those stories to the big screen. So all the imagination and creativity is owned by the writers.
  • Divergent
  •
  • The Maze Runner
  •
  • The Giver
  •
  • Vampire Academy
  •
  • The Boxtrolls
  •
  • The Fault in Our Stars
  •
  • This is Where I Leave You
  •
  • Mockingjay part 1
  •

I truly believe that Hollywood have a lot of potential, but they're like in a hole and they have to get out of there and start looking more at the world, be fearless to write whatever they want. For example the independent Cinema is very creative and deal with subjects more concerning and reflexive.
