Sochi:

Sochi is a place located in Russia, near the Black Sea and the Caucasus mountains. It is one of the few places un Russia that has a subtropical weather, having warm to hot summers and mild winters.

Sochi was part of the historical Circasssia, and was controlled by the native people of the  local mountaineer clans of the north-west Caucasus from the 14th to 19th century.

After the end of Caucasian War (during the period of 1864–1870) almost all Ubykhs and a major part of the Shapsugs, who lived on the territory of modern Sochi, were either killed in the Circassian Genocide.


Winter Olympic Games:
The introduction of the Winter Olympic games were delayed some years, and Sweden was the main inspiration for this games, because they used to celebrate the Nordic Games every four to five years, since 1901 to 1926.

Organizers of the 1916 Summer Games in Berlin planned to introduce a “Skiing Olympia,” featuring nordic events in the Black Forest, but the Games were cancelled after the outbreak of World War I in 1914.

The first Winter Olympic Games were held at Chamonix in 1924. Before a meeting in 1994 the games were held the same year and in the same place as the summer games.

Controversy:

On the past few days during the XXII celebration of the Winter Olympic Games on Sochi Russia there has  been some problems that the city has been going through. Over more than 2.500 athletes were received in Sochi.

The place:

Sochi is a subtropical seaside town, where the Winter Olympic Games are held, but that’s the reason, this place isn´t cold enough for WOG. Beside that recently some snow has fallen so the government won’t need the artificial snow they anticipated.

Terrorist alarms:

The Circassian people are threatening to attack on the WOG, the reason is because that in 1864, the Circassian suffered from genocide at the hands of the Russian Empire, from the Tsar Aleksander II. There are alarms that the terrorists want to liquidate all traces of the war and the genocide.

The military is looking after the mountains, they have retains to check and look for possible threats. Besides there has been some attacks from the terrorists near Sochi. Although Russia has been warned from the American government that the flies that go to Russia the terrorists may hide explosives on the toothpaste.

Laws against homosexuality:

Russia has been criticized for their laws against homosexuality internationally. This has as a consequence the reject from many countries that reject to attend Sochi.

His laws against the sexual propaganda have been very commented and criticized.

The famous group Pussy Riot  that defends the LGBT rights. In a concert in the United States they asked for a country free of Putin’s authoritarian government.

Homeless Dogs:

Another topic very important to mention is the extreme measures that the government took to exterminate all the homeless dogs were causing to the town.

The government hired a group that eliminate all the dogs, but then the citizens complained so the government decided to open a shelter, where the volunteers go and feed the dogs when they can.
